When you combine Fatlace’s Offset Kings car show with an event like Gridlife, you better believe you’re in for a treat. Pair that combo up with JDM Chicago and you have one hell of a Saturday at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL. Since the Autobahn Country Club also plays host to a few different tuning garages, there was a display of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other exotic cars to drool over along the entry road to the show. Trekking down the entry road, the aroma of burning tires fills the air and the sights of camber and low offsets crowd your view as far as the eyes can see.
One walk through the show area and I knew I’d have to pace back through it more than a few times to really appreciate the details. Between the prime example of a Hakosuka Skyline all the way to bagged minivans and a track inspired Lotus, you’d have to try pretty hard to be disappointed by the turnout. If you like drift cars, there’s plenty. If you like VIP cars, there’s plenty. If you like track cars, there’s plenty. This really is one of the most diverse car events I’ve been to and will continue to go to.
The car show portion of the day ended mid afternoon and we all gathered for the awards. Some surprises and some obvious winners were announced, but overall it was about having fun, hanging out with old friends, making new friends, and showing off that new car or new mods that you’re oh so excited about.
In Tandem with the car show was the Gridlife event. If you don’t already know, Gridlife is a fairly new event that strives to bridge the gap between the car show goers and the track life enthusiasts. Gridlife is determined and dedicated to bringing everyone in the automotive community together regardless of what category they identify with. Unfortunately I didn’t catch much of the Gridlife event, but local drift teams such as Team Proceed and Risky Devils were there showing the crowd how its done. The road racing portion was also full of heavy hitters from Evos to 240sx track cars to M3’s, even a McLaren was spotted taking to the track.
I feel like I don’t even need to say it at this point, but you’re going to want to check out the next Offset Kings event when it comes near you. And Gridlife? It’s only going to get bigger and better from here, tune in and visit the track when they come around and you will not leave disappointed.
