For the first time ever, Tuner Evolution made it’s way to Chicago. A relatively short distance for me so I made the drive down to see what it was all about since the hype behind it seemed to be pretty wild. It was at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center so it was a familiar place and easy to get to for anyone local to the area. Knowing the building I expected the show to have a pretty big turnout, and the show still blew past my expectations by a large margin.
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of drift cars just like it’s no secret that drift cars are the “in” thing right now. It goes without saying that there were some top quality drift builds in the house including Chicago’s own D-Squad, Team Tracker, and a lot more impressive builds. Pretty wild to see them looking like they were fresh out of a dealership showroom after seeing some of them thrash into walls and into their friends cars at Final Bout only a few short weeks ago.
Of course there was a lot more than just drift cars in attendance. One that immediately caught my attention was the Ben Sopra kitted R35 GTR shown below. But Tuner Evo was more than just cars, being at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center for Tuner Evo brought back a feeling like Wekfest 2011 at McCormick Place right in Downtown Chicago. Quality cars no matter where you looked, friendly faces everywhere even if you’ve never met them before, groups of friends coming together to show off their builds together and have a friendly competition against each other. The atmosphere was great, and to an extent it didn’t even matter what cars were there because just being there was special in itself.
